Your Therapy Journey
What to expect...
1. Initial Contact
You reach out to discuss your needs, ask questions, and explore whether therapy feels right for you. I offer a free 15 minute consultation, so that you get a feel for whether you and I working together is a good fit for you.
2. Assessment Session
We will discuss your history, current challenges, and future goals. Together we can decide whether CBT, EMDR, or an integrated approach is the best fit.
3. Goal Setting
We collaboratively identify what you want to change or understand. Goals may be practical (reducing panic attacks) or emotional (feeling more grounded).
4. Therapy Sessions
Sessions are tailored to your needs:
CBT focuses on skills, strategies, and understanding patterns which are current or have developed from early experiences.
EMDR focuses on processing distressing or upsetting memories and reducing their emotional intensity.
5. Between‑Sessions
I will suggest that you practise techniques discussed during sessions, complete worksheets, or use grounding strategies. Practicing skills helps reinforce progress, a little bit like if you went to see a physiotherapist they might give you exercises to practice. Evidence shows that when skills are practised outside of the therapy room, they become integrated into your life leading to improved wellbeing.
6. Review & Reflection
You and I will regularly check in on how you feel therapy is going, what's improving and what feels stuck.
7. Ending Therapy
Therapy usually ends mutually, with a focus on maintaining that progress you have made, reflecting on how far you have come and planning for future goals.
